Rolfing is a system of soft-tissue manipulation and movement education designed to help realign the human structure in its entirety and create an improved relationship to gravity. Over the years, our bodies react to physical and emotional strains as well as the demands of life by shortening and twisting. These restrictions begin to imprint a less than beneficial pattern on our structure that can result in pain and limitation in both form and function. Rolfing works to “unwind” these patterns by releasing fixations in the connective tissues and bringing the functional units (joints and muscles) of the body into a more balanced relationship. Rolfing brings about higher levels of function, balance, and strength to the body’s posture and movement patterns. A misaligned body has a weakened response to stress and injury. An aligned body is more adaptable and quicker to bounce back. In essence Rolfing’s benefits are twofold, it releases unhealthy restrictions in the soft tissue decreasing pain and tension, and it brings the body back into proper alignment making it more resilient.

How you move and use (or don’t use your body) literally shapes you! Rolfing works from the paradigm form equals function. If your body doesn’t have all of the key elements of strength/support, flexibility, and organization, it won’t move and function in it’s optimal way. This suboptimal function often results in pain or instability. In this plan we will analyze your structure and create a individualized exercise and stretch routine aimed at optimizing your body’s full potential. This includes a printout of your program as well as a one on one coaching session.
